Friends of Vellore UK is a charitable organisation which supports the Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore in India. CMC Vellore was founded just over a century ago by Dr Ida Scudder, the daughter of an American missionary, responding to God’s call on her life to start a hospital for women and a medical college to train female doctors. Today, CMC is considered one of India’s finest medical college hospitals and attracts patients from all over the country as well as neighbouring nations.
Friends of Vellore (FOV) UK want to ensure that everyone can receive appropriate medical treatment regardless of their ability to pay. So we raise funds to support projects that in particular benefit those who are poor or marginalised.
We aim to:
- Support education and healthcare in India by enlisting and maintaining interest in CMC Vellore or at the discretion of the Trustees, any other institution of like character, but with special regard to those working in partnership with CMC or participating on CMC led initiatives.
- Assist CMC Vellore or such other institutions in maintaining their Christian character and professional standards through financial, professional, networking and prayer support.
- Give special priority to the needs of the poorest and most excluded patients and communities and through partnership with CMC seek to sustain or bring forward programmes which will benefit disadvantaged people.
